Pre-Match Predictions: Chelsea vs FC Barcelona – Destiny Beckons

The biggest match in the history of Chelsea FC Women is slowly creeping up. It’s Chelsea vs FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League Final and will be held in Göteborg, Sweden.

After the high of both teams winning their respective leagues this season will be looking to win this tournament for the first time. FC Barcelona were runners up in 2019, falling short against Lyon. Meanwhile, this will be Chelsea’s first Champions League Final.

Let’s take a look at what CFCW Social members think might happen on Chelsea’s big night.

Chelsea vs FC Barcelona – Predictions

Tobs (@blueflops)

Both teams excel most in their attacking side. Barcelona have scored 128 goals in 26 league matches while only conceding five. Upon speaking to a Barcelona fan, she said to watch out for Aitana Bonmati, the Spanish midfielder. She also informed me that Patri Guijarro would be lethal if played in her best position – the midfield – which is rare. Of course, we cannot shy away from the big-name attackers such as Lieke Martens, Alexia Putellas, Jenni Hermoso and Caroline Graham Hansen who have all had their fair share of goals this season.

As for Chelsea, the chase for the Quadruple is still on, Emma Hayes will do everything she can to win this trophy as it has always been her dream. With a squad like ours, anything is possible. The on-form duo of Fran Kirby and Sam Kerr has been tremendous for our season, with the help of midfielders Pernille Harder, Erin Cuthbert and Melanie Leupolz. The clash will be one of the most exciting Champions League final to date as it can go either way. This would also end Lyon’s 5-year run as champions of Europe.

So Chelsea vs FC Barcelona might well be a goalfest.

As for my prediction, I will have the most faith that the Champions League trophy will come home to Kingsmeadow. I believe we will win the match with a thrilling 3-2 scoreline.

Prediction: Chelsea 3-2 FC Barcelona

Rob Pratley (@RJPJournalism) – Chelsea vs FC Barcelona Prediction

Emma Hayes promised the performance of player’s lives against Bayern in the 2nd leg. Against FC Barcelona, they’ll need to produce the performance of nine lives.

I think Chelsea can certainly hurt the Spanish giants, but will need to be at it defensively. It’s a huge game for whichever pair Jess Carter, Jonna Andersson and Niamh Charles starts at fullback as Barcelona like attacking down the wing.

That said, I do think the Blues attack is sometimes undersold. In Pernille Harder, Fran Kirby and Sam Kerr, you have three players all capable of winning a UWCL Final on their own and when the 3 tick together, it’s truly magical.

Chelsea vs FC Barcelona is going to be a battle for the ages and could well be a classic UEFA Women’s Champions League Final. Let hope it has the ending that all Chelsea fans are hoping for and Emma Hayes’s team complete the set.

Prediction: Chelsea 1-1 FC Barcelona (Chelsea win 5-4 on Penalties)

If Chelsea win: 1-0. From a counter-attack – Fran Kirby. Or a penalty from Pernille Harder created from a counter-attack when Sam Kerr trashes Barcelona’s backline with a run.

The other prediction is that Barcelona will win. 5-0. Lieke Martens and Caroline Graham Hansen will run the show down the flanks and punish Chelsea.

Prediction: Chelsea 1-0 FC Barcelona

Meg Aherne (@meggaherne)

I’m feeling very nervous but excited. This is something I’ve been waiting for since I first started following the team in 2015.

Getting close to the Final in the 2018/19 season and losing to Lyon was heartbreaking because I personally believe we would have won if we got to the final. No matter what happens this team has had just an incredible season and they are just amazing, I’ll be so proud no matter what. Bring on Chelsea vs FC Barcelona!

Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 FC Barcelona

Ketherin Antoni (@ketherinantoni)

I think Chelsea vs FC Barcelona is gonna be really fast-paced game, hard to keep possession on both sides, nervous to the last minute of it. My prediction is that Chelsea will open the scoreline in the first half, Barcelona will manage to pressure up in the second half equalising the game, and through a quick ‘classic’ Kerrby counter-attack Chelsea with get the second and final goal.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 FC Barcelona

Hadeel (@hadcfc)

Ok picture this UWCL final 2nd-minute Kerr-by strike on the counter – GOOOOAAAL!! Sam ‘Flop’ Kerr!! Crowd goes wild; (well the crowd UEFA didn’t care to allow)…Chelsea park the bus…Barça can’t get through our defence: the struggle is real.

30′ Long range shot from Pernille ‘Highest transfer fee’ Harder fires it from just outside the box. 2-0 Chelsea. HT- Chelsea go in at half time with one hand on the trophy..

2nd half starts. Pretty even until 67′ CGH forces her way through and crosses to Hermoso. ..point-blank save from Berger..still 2-0. Fast forward to Injury time..barça throwing everything they have at Chelsea..their goalkeeper is all the way in Chelsea’s box. Niamh Charles slide tackle…Chelsea on the counter..KIRBYYY!!!!

Whistle blows – Chelsea wins the Champions League in my utopian world.

Footnote: What will actually happen: Hermoso hat trick in 30 minutes.. Prediction 3-0 Barça, sorry I don’t dare

Prediction: Chelsea 0-3 FC Barcelona

Charlotte Stacey (@CharlotteS1206)

I believe the trajectory of Chelsea vs FC Barcelona will inevitably sway toward whichever team is able to hit the back of the net first.

If Chelsea can snatch an early lead then I predict the Blues will be bringing the silverware home with a 2-1 win. If Barcelona manage to score first I predict a 3-0 win for the Spanish champions. With this being said, I predict the margins between the two sides to be slim. The game will be fast-paced, aggressive and spirited and will reflect the hunger both sides share to lift the trophy.

May the best team win.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 FC Barcelona
