So what could this deal mean for Chelsea Football Club and their attempt on closing the gap in the race for the title next season?

It’s being reported from various sources that Chelsea will offer around €30/€35 million and Kurt Zouma for Kounde with talks between the two clubs progressing well. However there are still some uncertainties in this deal. So who exactly is Jules Kounde and what could he bring to Chelsea?

The career of Jules Kounde

Jules Olivier Kounde was born on 12th November 1998 in Paris, France. The 22 year old french international started his career at Bordeaux where he played one season for their B team making 30 appearances and scoring one goal. This was enough to get him a place in Bordeaux’s first team where he played an additional two seasons for the club making 55 appearances and scoring two goals.

On 3rd July 2019, Kounde signed for Spanish club Sevilla with the transfer fee being reported around €25 million. The centre back has currently made 63 appearances for the club, scoring 3 goals and making a fine impression in the footballing world with French manager Didier Deschamps calling Kounde up to France’s 26 man squad at Euro 2020

What can Jules Kounde bring to the current European Champions?

Jules Kounde is a right footed centre back that can also play at right back making him a versatile player in defence. This could allow him to challenge the likes of Cesar Azpilecueta at the right side of Chelsea’s back three and even Reece James at the right back position and bring more competition to the defence. This would give manager Thomas Tuchel more options to pick from at the back which could be vital in keeping players fit throughout all competitions this season with rotation.

On the other hand, one benefit that Chelsea have is that they already have a number of quality defenders in the same or similar position to Kounde and there are question marks over whether Chelsea need him at this moment in time. However, with the player attracting a lot of attention from the big clubs in world football, Chelsea may have to move now to get him and his signing would welcome a positive reaction from the supporters.

Some Uncertainties with the deal

The deal in question between both Sevilla and Chelsea was progressing very well. However, there has been some Uncertainties over the last few days that have arisen and Chelsea may struggle to complete this deal.

Some sources have suggested that the cash plus player deal suits both clubs. However, the player involved in the deal Kurt Zouma is believed to not want a move to Spain and would prefer to stay in the Premier League. Both clubs still believe the deal is possible but, there may need to be more cash offered up in the deal or another player to get the move across the line.

Chelsea a few days ago according to sources also rejected a £20 million pound bid for Kurt Zouma from West Ham with it being believed that Zouma does not want to sign for West Ham. It is still believed though that Chelsea can get a deal done for Kounde and negotiations will likely continue over the next few days with the priority signing at the moment being Romelu Lukaku for Chelsea.

Can Kounde become a star at Chelsea FC?

If Chelsea are able to sign Jules Kounde, many we’ll see it as a great signing for the club including the Chelsea fans. At 22 years of age, he could be a mainstay in the Chelsea defence for many years to come and has all the qualities to go right to the top. Whether this deal gets done is up to both clubs but as we know, anything can happen in football.
