Three Chelsea players to watch out for ahead of Manchester United clash – Antonio Rudiger dominance, Reece James form and Kai Havertz opportunity

Chelsea have been flying high in all competitions this season, having just thumped Juventus 4-0 earlier this week and currently sitting top of the league, Thomas Tuchel’s dominant Blues will face another test up against Michael Carrick’s Manchester United.

We take a look at three players who could play a huge part up against a struggling and soulless Manchester United team; who will look to bounce back in the Premier League after they were thrashed by Watford.

Manchester United need to get past Antonio Rüdiger to trouble Blues

The dominant centre-back who was deemed surplus to requirements under Frank Lampard has well and truly bounced back in fashion since the arrival of Tuchel. The German has been integral for Chelsea, considering he is the only member of the senior squad to play every minute of Chelsea’s Premier League season so far. That trend should continue for the visit of Manchester United.

Chelsea will need another resolute defensive display against Manchester United tomorrow at Stamford Bridge and there is no doubt Rüdiger will be vital, especially in aid of keeping Cristiano Ronaldo quiet.

Reece James form a stumbling block to any United threat?

Is it an exaggeration to say the Englishman has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season? Having provided four goals and four assists in nine appearances this season so far, James has noticeably taken his game to the next level.

It can be argued that the 21 year-old doesn’t have a weakness to his game. Defensive positioning/awareness, technical ability, finishing, crossing, speed and physical prowess. He’s the complete package and will only improve.

He will be expected to pose a considerable threat up against a Manchester United team that will be without skipper Harry Maguire and summer signing Raphael Varane. With Luke Shaw expected to play at left centre-back in a back three, it is expected that Alex Telles will start at left wing-back and James will certainly fancy his chances up against an out-of-form Shaw and Telles who has not played much football of late.

Kai Havertz to regain starting spot up front?

Although Romelu Lukaku is fit and training, Tuchel did confirm in his press conference yesterday that there isn’t a ‘high chance’ he will start on Sunday up against his former club.

However, Tuchel did confirm that Kai Havertz, who didn’t feature midweek against Juventus, is available for selection tomorrow and is likely to start at false nine as opposed to Christian Pulisic who had a fine game in that role against Juventus earlier this week.

The German wonder-kid will certainly be keen to impress and keep his place in the squad. He will face a tough test up against a team that will certainly sit back and let the Blues dominate in terms of ball possession in the opposition half.

Considering the amount of chances we create per game, the onus will certainly be on Kai Havertz who will look to drop deep and get others involved but when the chances come, he will be expected to produce and be clinical.
