Crystal Palace vs Chelsea: FA Cup Semi Final Score Predictions

Introduction

After the disappointment of exiting the Champions League in midweek, the FA Cup is now Chelsea’s last realistic chance at silverware this season. They face Crystal Palace today in the semi final at Wembley for the right to face Liverpool in the final next month.

This will be the first time that the two sides have met in the competition since 1976 so it’s hard to read too much into the fixture’s history. Chelsea have however, won their last nine matches against Crystal Palace in the Premier League, making them favourites. A concern for Thomas Tuchel will be the club’s relatively poor record at the home of English football recently, and he will be wanting to put things right and reach another major final.

Helping him do this will hopefully be Romelu Lukaku, who is fit against after missing the last two games with an Achilles injury. Cesar Azpilicueta could also be set for a return to action, although Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ben Chilwell are still injured. The rest of the squad are fit and available.

For Crystal Palace, they will have to deal with the absence of Conor Gallagher, who can’t play against his parent club. Additionally, Michael Olise and Tyrick Mitchell are doubts and have only been training individually over the past couple of days. Will Hughes missed the last match through a knock so will need to be assessed before kick-off.

With Champions League football looking like it’s nearly secured for the Blues, this is a more important match than ever. Ultimately, football is about winning trophies, and it would be disappointing to end a season which began with so much promise empty handed. Today is a good opportunity to improve the record at Wembley and hopefully progress to another cup final.

Can Chelsea overcome Crystal Palace once again?

The remaining piece of silverware for Chelsea to compete in the season depends on beating an in-form Crystal Palace team. However, after performing outstandingly against Southampton and Real Madrid, that should be a doable task for Tuchel’s side. An advantage for us is that the Eagles will not be available to start their superstar midfielder, Conor Gallagher, who is on loan from us.

Moreover, Chelsea have shown twice in a row that the team has arguably re-established itself. With Reece James, Marcos Alonso, Mason Mount, and Timo Werner coming back to the mix in exceptional form – the Blues’ current chemistry on the pitch only adds to the confidence for a positive result against Palace. As the fixture’s underdogs though, our London rivals have got nothing to lose and that could set the game’s circumstances early in the game with some intensity from them. Nonetheless, the Blues are likely to hold their urgency off and be capable of dictating the game. Hence it is reasonable to expect the team to rely on a more tactical, possession-based style of play under these conditions.

Considering we lost the League Cup Final to Liverpool earlier in the season, winning against Palace and getting revenge for our last Wembley loss would mean finishing the season on a high. Hopefully, third time is a charm! My prediction is Chelsea 2-0 Crystal Palace.

Up the Chels!

After a very solid and promising performance against Real Madrid earlier in the week, I definitely fancy our chances against Crystal Palace at Wembley. The players will be happy with the performance against Real Madrid and rightly so, but we didn’t win. We need to turn up at Wembley with an incentive to bounce back and revive our winning momentum.

Our record at Wembley over the year hasn’t been great, but it’s time to change that. I like Crystal Palace. The football they play is really entertaining to watch when they have their main players fit. No Gallagher but they have players like Eze, Olise and Zaha. They will definitely go for it.

It’s going to be really interesting. I think we’re clearly the stronger team and should comfortably beat them. But it’s Wembley. These finals don’t come around for Palace many times and they will be up for it just as much as Leicester were against us last season.

Although with us losing against Madrid, I can see Chelsea coming quick out the blocks. Wing-backs will be crucial for this game. If James and Alonso perform well, then I can only see a Chelsea win.

Prediction: Chelsea 3-1 Crystal Palace

Chelsea return to Wembley to potentially set up their second domestic final against Liverpool in two months if they can get past Patrick Viera’s Crystal Palace. Palace will be without Chelsea loanee and arguably their most influential player Conor Gallagher after he was refused permission to take to the field by his parent club. Wilfred Zaha is available.

Chelsea will be looking to bounce back from their midweek Champions League exit, and I would expect a similar line up, with Mason Mount, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz likely to keep their places in the front three.

The FA Cup offers Chelsea their last chance of silverware this season, in a campaign that risks being remembered for its ownership controversy, rather than results. Having also lost the last two FA Cup finals, they will be desperate to make amends and get back to winning ways in a competition they have dominated in this century.

I’m expecting a win in 90 minutes for that reason, and a 3-0 win with a goal from Mount and another stellar performance from Antonio Rudiger at the back.

Prediction: Chelsea 3-0 Crystal Palace

Chelsea are back in knockout action today, hoping to win against Crystal Palace and advance to the FA Cup Final, where Liverpool await.

Our last game sadly saw us exit the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid. Admittedly, Palace will be an entirely different game to Madrid but I think we should progress in ninety minutes.

Wembley hasn’t been kind to us recently and the cruel loss to Leicester in last year’s FA Cup Final will hopefully not play on the team’s mind too much today – if we can erase that memory today, we can really be at our best to end our Wembley hoodoo.

I think Tuchel will pick the strongest possible squad to take to the field this afternoon, ensuring we stand the best possible chance of advancing to the final and I think we’ll get the job done. 2-0 win, Mount and Ziyech with the goals.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Crystal Palace

Our last chance of additional silverware hangs in the balance. Despite our probabilities of the league title still technically open, the FA Cup is truly our last hope of another trophy in an up and down season.

Tuchel has done wonders with heavy injuries hurting our squad and the recent uncertainty of the club’s ownership. In our last encounter against Crystal Palace, Chelsea struggled to get a grip offensively and it took until the last few minutes of the game to get the winning goal. I expect another strong Palace side that will make things difficult, especially in midfield.

One of the key areas Patrick Vieira has improved is removing the reliance on individual quality and instead working as a unit. If you remove any player from that squad including Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher & Wilfred Zaha, Palace will most likely still play offensive football. That wasn’t the case two years ago. They recently beat Arsenal convincingly and have cemented themselves as a strong mid table side.

They will come at us especially seeing our wobbly defence in the first leg of our CL bout against Madrid. I hope to see Havertz start alongside Werner with the German duo currently in good form. Our midfield will need to be up for it so starting Kovacic is a must. We also could see Ruben Loftus-Cheek back in midfield to provide some more progressive play against Palace’s physical squad.

My final prediction is a 2-1 win for the Blues where I see both teams have strong moments of possession.

C’MON YOU BLUES!

Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Crystal Palace
