Erin Cuthbert: Midfield Dynamo – Player of the Season Nomination

Chelsea‘s formidable offence often overshadows other important actors in the Blues squad. One of those players, who doesn’t get enough credit, is Erin Cuthbert. She performed impressively for the club this season when stepping up in midfield.

The Scotswoman‘s versatility makes her a key player in Chelsea‘s campaign, as the team seeks to defend their WSL-title. No matter the position, more defensive or offensive tasks, Cuthbert rarely put a wrong foot on the pitch.

Erin Cuthbert: Definition of Consistency

The 2021/22 season was a consistent one for the midfielder. She hardly missed a game and was spared by serious injuries. So far, Cuthbert featured in 21 games in all competitions for the Blues. She made it to Emma Hayes‘ starting XI 16 times.

The midfielder‘s impact can‘t be overlooked. Cuthbert sets defensive, as well as offensive courses, which makes her unpredictable for any opponent. As of April 2022, she scored four stunning goals and provided two assists.

Cuthbert netted in some important games, often breaking the deadlock for the Blues. Notable are her strikes against Everton in the WSL and Juventus in the UWCL group stage.

Furthermore, Cuthbert provided an immense amount of stability in Chelsea‘s midfield this season. Throughout the campaign, Cuthbert was mostly used as a right wing-back or in a more central role in midfield.

Apart from her important goals, Cuthbert has created an impressive amount of 72 shots, including those on target. Furthermore, the midfielder has taken up some defensive tasks and made 53 tackles so far.
