Jess Carter: Consistency and Quality – Player Of The Season Nomination

Why wouldn’t Jess Carter be Player of the Season is a better question! With the absence of Maren and Magda, Jess has stepped up her game. This has led to her cementing her place in Chelsea’s starting line-up.

Game after game, Jess Carter has put in goal-saving challenges, chased down the fastest players in the game and been part of the wall at the back that has allowed only two goals past them at Kingsmeadow this WSL season!

Proving Doubters Wrong

Along with others, I was sceptical about Carter in previous seasons but after her performances this season, I am claiming the title ‘Chairwoman’ of the Jess Carter fan club.

I think the regular game time has given Jess the confidence to back herself in any situation. She is such an experienced player it is very easy to forget she is only 24! Her performances this season have been the definition of consistency.

Her reputation is growing on the national stage too. Since Sarina Wiegman took over as Lionesses manager, Jess Carter has had multiple call ups with the England team. She even netted her a goal in the 20-0 thrashing of Latvia.

Jess Carter: Impressing the Boss

Emma Hayes has gone on the record to say: “She’s one of the best one-v-one defenders in the country.“ “She’s got pace, she’s got power, she’s got poise, she’s got mentality.” What more can you ask for?

For further support, West Ham’s Kate Longhurst tweeted ‘Jess Carter’s the best right back in the league atm 👏🏼’ Defenders are often overlooked in POTS awards. They tend to go to the goal scorers. However, the people who stop goals are just as important as them.

One Sentence, One Reason Why

She is my Chelsea Player of the Season, as well as my WSL player of the season and, she should be yours too!
