Leeds United vs Chelsea: Premier League Score Predictions

A few weeks ago, top four seemed to be in the bag for Chelsea, but after a string of poor results and even worse performances, things are looking slightly more perilous for the Stamford Bridge side. They now travel away to Leeds United to play a match which has now become a must win. Never a dull day for the Blues!

Contributing to this being an interesting match is that Leeds also have to win. Everton and Burnley’s late resurgences have placed Jesse Marsch’s team in the relegation zone and in real danger of dropping down to the Championship. They will be looking to get one over on their London rivals and claim what would be a massive three points.

Going into this match, Thomas Tuchel will be happy to see some key players potentially returning. Ben Chilwell and Hudson-Odoi are the only players guaranteed to miss out with injury, while Jorginho and Kante will be assessed before kick-off. There are rumours that Marcos Alonso could be excluded due to a dressing room incident during the previous match, but this hasn’t been confirmed yet. If true, it could see Saul Niguez step in at wing back if the manager opts for a like for like change.

For Leeds, they will without ex-Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford who is injured. Captain Luke Ayling is also an absentee due his red card in the previous match against Arsenal and Liam Cooper could make a later return to their side although a decision is yet to be made.

It will be interesting to see how this game plays out. Chelsea experimented with a more open style of play against Wolves which unleashed Romelu Lukaku. While it backfired in the end, it did see Chelsea carve out chances in a way they haven’t been able to in recent times. Against a Leeds team who need to win and will have to push forward, it could be an effective strategy. All in all, it’s set up to be a fiery clash where both teams will do everything to get a much-needed victory.

Ahead of kickoff, some of the writers at The Chelsea Social have made their predictions.

Facing teams battling relegation has not been the best-case scenario for the Blues recently. Notably, Tuchel’s side has lacked the motivation to play, and this current form has made it impossible for the team to maintain a lead for a full 90 minutes.

Worsening the circumstances for Chelsea, Arsenal are now just a point behind us in the table, meaning we might be sucked back into a top four race. Consequently, to guarantee a win and expand the gap between us the Gunners, we must look at the main positive from the match against Wolves in Romelu Lukaku. Not only did he score a brace, but he used his physical strength, created space, and made quick decisions throughout the entire game superbly. Therefore, his place in the starting eleven should be 100% secured. Additionally, Kai Havertz could work as an efficient partner alongside Romelu, especially after resting for over a week.

If this Chelsea squad is in a defensive crisis, the Leeds team is a terminal catastrophe. Even though the Blues have a good chance at conceding a goal, Leeds should be even more likely to let Tuchel’s side take an extensive lead – especially with the Lukaku and Havertz duo on the pitch. For that reason, my prediction is Leeds 1-3 Chelsea.

Come on, you Blues!

It’s Leeds vs Chelsea again as the old rivals renew their decade-old distaste for one another.

With Leeds nursing the noble tag of having statistically the worst defence in the league and something of a defensive crisis given injuries and their captain Luke Ayling taking leave of his senses via a brazen tackle that saw him receive a red card, it goes without saying that they will likely keep a clean sheet.

This is, of course, because Chelsea’s annual charity drive is underway as the Blues players’ giving mood is set to extend to another team in dire need of a win to realise their season’s ambitions. Prior to Wolves, Everton were in need of three points to salvage their fight for survival and Chelsea duly obliged. Leeds could yet be the lucky ones this week as the West Londoners pursue the FIFA Fair Play Award by evening out the relegation battle by gifting Leeds three points as well.

In all seriousness though, Chelsea’s league season petered out a long time ago and the attitude of the players has shown that. Sloppiness, a lack of concentration, fatigue, and the vagaries of a season across five different competitions have caught up with the squad. So many players potentially leaving the club has led to a certain malaise around the team, not to mention the external pressure of the takeover hanging over the team.

One gets the sense that the sooner this season is over, the better for Chelsea Football Club. It’s a sad realisation given the fact that it began with such promise off the back of a Champions League win and was supposed to predicate a Premier League title challenge.

Nevertheless, this trip to Elland Road provides a unique opportunity for the team to get a much-needed win to go a long way to securing Top 4 and building some momentum ahead of the FA Cup Final against Liverpool.

Unfortunately, I think there is too much negativity, and the squad is too misshapen and tired at the present moment to muster much against a team who will be highly motivated to keep their status as a Premier League team.

Prediction: Leeds 3-1 Chelsea

This classic rivalry born in the 60’s and 70’s is often hard fought and both teams are desperate for points, with the West Yorkshire side falling into the bottom three and Chelsea limping over the finish line in their quest to secure Champions League football for next season. Romelu Lukaku is likely to keep his place in attack following his brace against Wolves, only the second time the Belgian has scored more than once in a game for Chelsea to date, with the previous occasion being over six months ago. The build up to the FA Cup final hasn’t been as smooth as many Chelsea supporters would have hoped but getting back to winning ways is a must and Leeds are likely to make the game difficult and a scrap to the last.

Following Luke Ayling’s wild lunge against Arsenal on the weekend, the defender will be missing for the visit of Chelsea to Elland Road, deepening their defensive issues. Leeds are also likely to still be without former Chelsea academy striker Patrick Bamford, and his long term absence has no doubt coincided with their slide down the table. He has returned to training but this game could come too soon for him to feature. Tuchel will be looking at alternatives to Marcos Alonso following a reported clash between the pair, so promising youngster Lewis Hall could receive another senior call-up for Chelsea.

I’m expecting both teams to score but Chelsea coming through in the end. I’m predicting that Ziyech will get on the scoresheet and that Tuchel will try and rest Havertz for the FA Cup final and give the Moroccan some minutes alongside Lukaku. I’m saying Leeds 1-2 Chelsea!

The rocky transition of new ownership has put a heavy cloud on our performance. The mounting poor results have not bode well for our top 3 place and in essence given Arsenal, our London rivals the chance to snag our spot.

With that said, not only have our league position been compromised but we’ve been thrown right into the midst of the top four race with our lack of results. Our focus and energy levels have been subpar for the last few weeks and getting a win is a must.

Tonight’s game against Leeds will be crucial for our confidence and we must treat it as a final. If we don’t, we could very well slip up once again and allow our rivals to get in front and this could spell disaster after a good spell of games in March.

We need to up for it so starting players who have been in form is important. Lukaku had a strong game this past weekend against Wolves so we could see him return.

Nevertheless, this is a do or die match. My prediction is a rocky start for the Blues, but I foresee a victory with a narrow 1-0 result. C’MON YOU BLUES!

Prediction: Leeds 0-1 Chelsea
