It’s been a long and challenging season for Chelsea Football Club but after nine months and sixty-two matches, it’s finally drawing to a close. This afternoon, Chelsea take on already relegated Watford at Stamford Bridge in the final game of the Premier League season. It’s a game which essentially means nothing for both sides as the Blues are secure in third place and Watford cannot escape relegation. As a result, both teams may use the match as a chance to give youngsters a game and prepare for the next campaign.
Another way to look it, however, is that both teams have nothing to lose and that could lead to an entertaining match of football. Chelsea have scored at least twice in their last seven home games against Watford, so hopefully Chelsea will put on a show and leave fans feeling upbeat going into the summer break.
As far as team news goes, there is a chance Ben Chilwell could be included in the squad today. It’s almost certain that he won’t start but seeing him in a matchday squad would be a great sight. Timo Werner and Callum Hudson-Odoi will miss out through injury though, potentially leaving room for Harvey Vale to get some minutes.
For Watford, they look ready to welcome several first team players back into the fold. Femenia, King and Cleverly all missed the last game through illness and injury respectively but have now recovered. Samir and Hernandez are also back after time out with injuries. Etebo, Dennis, Forde, Kucka, Louza and Sarr are all unavailable though, leaving Roy Hodgson short on attacking options.
Although this game doesn’t matter that much, it would be nice to end the season on a high. Morale among the fans has been low for a few weeks now, so to see some youngsters impress in a comfortable win would do the world of good. It will also be nice to see some departing players such as Antonio Rudiger get the send-off they deserve.
For a final time this season, some of the writers at The Chelsea Social have made their match predictions.

Third place is secured and Chelsea have done their job. On the other hand, Watford are already relegated. Therefore, facing the Hornets at the Bridge for the season’s last game is an opportunity for Tuchel to finally give some game time to those who have not featured in a while.
In terms of the team’s setup, it would be interesting to mix experienced players with some youngsters who could have their futures decided in this summer’s pre-season. Seeing names like Lewis Hall and Harvey Vale in the starting XI would be a positive move from Tuchel, a potential evaluation of whether promoting the Cobham products will be in his plans for the upcoming season. There are also the departures (the official and rumored ones) of Rüdiger, Azpillicueta, and Alonso, who will all get a last moment on the pitch to say goodbye.
The game should be an entertaining match for Chelsea fans. The Blues will likely be the ones to control the game and retain possession, whether that’s with Lukaku’s hold-up play or the wingers’ crosses and passes from behind. Thus, my prediction is Chelsea 2 – 0 Watford.
Up the Chels!
Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Watford
With 3rd position secured, I think Watford at home will be a good run out for the youngsters and the players who haven’t played much this season including the likes of Lewis Hall, Charlie Webster (pictured) and Harvey Vale. As well as the young players, we may also see the ones who have the potential to maybe play a part in Tuchel’s squad next season or at least get a move elsewhere.
Watford are already relegated, so I do expect us to win regardless of the team we put out. This will be a nice match to score a few goals and end what has been quite a rough season.
Tomorrow will also be the last we see of Rudiger and Christensen in a Chelsea shirt which will be quite emotional. This could also be Jorginho, Alonso and Azpilicueta’s last appearances for the club so I expect there will be mixed emotions tomorrow.
Prediction: Chelsea 3-0 Watford

The last day of Chelsea football for the season. A sure way to end is to get a long awaited win against a woeful Watford side.
I do expect some changes but hopefully not much as I hope Tuchel will want to end things with a strong performance against the Hornets. It’s crucial that we don’t rotate too much as it might disrupt our flow but nevertheless we need to win.
Despite securing third, ending the campaign with a victory will boost our moral for this crucial summer where we will need to improve and rebuild. I expect a defensive Watford to sit back and soak pressure for a counter attack approach. My final prediction is a 1-1 draw but hopefully I’m wrong.
Up the Chels!
Prediction: Chelsea 1-1 Watford

One more game of the season awaits against Roy Hodgson’s already relegated Watford. Chelsea will be hoping to end a season that has stuttered to a finish with a win but the matters off the pitch that have consumed the club all season now almost resolved, we will now be able to take centre stage.
With nothing to lose, you sense Watford will be up for this game, but I don’t see them getting any points today. I am going for a 4-1 Chelsea win, and I hope Toni Rudiger gets a good send off. It’s such a shame it won’t be a full Stamford Bridge.
Prediction: Chelsea 4-1 Watford

The season is 90 minutes away from coming to a close and for many Chelsea fans that will be a relief after a long and strenuous season. Arsenal’s defeat on Monday night confirmed our Champions League for next season whilst Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Leicester all but secured a third place finish.
Like Thursday, Sunday will also be a rare occasion for Chelsea where nothing is riding on the game and this should help to ease the tension that has been around the club of late as we could see fringe/youth players get a rare run out.
For Watford, Sunday is a farewell for them to the Premier League once again and players will be wanting to make a point to the club’s hierarchy to remain at the club next season or for others it will be about putting themselves in the shop window.
The Blues rank seventh in the home form table and after one home win in two months, they will be desperate to put an end to that run and head into the summer of change with a win behind them.
Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Watford
